Amazon Prime Day 2018: We know that sifting through the deals on Amazon Prime Day can be a daunting task, so we’re here to help. We’ve got years of experience that we use to spot a good deal from a dud, and to give you the information you need on a potential purchase.
We’ve put together this detailed guide to help you navigate through every aspect of Prime Day, from the deals to the free-trials and everything in between – we’ve got you covered.
Amazon Prime Day 2018 – What to expect
We’re now on the weekend before Prime Day, so that means just two more days until it all kicks off with a bang. Thankfully, Amazon has begun trickling out information on what we can expect from Prime Day 2018, including some of the deals it has in store.
Keep in mind, you’re still going to have to wait until noon on Monday July 16th for these to begin going live (Amazon will be staggering its deals throughout the entire period), but it’s useful information so you can prepare your wallets.
Here are some of the discounts we already know are coming:
The excellent Kindle Paperwhite e-reader will have a substantial £35 wiped off its usual price, meaning you’re only paying £74.99 for one of the best e-readers going. We gave it a 9/10 score in our Kindle Paperwhite review, praising its great screen, impressive battery and responsive display. That was when we reviewed it full price at £109.99, too, so with £35 off it’s even more enticing.
Kindle Fire Tablets
If you’re looking for a ruggedised tablet that can handle some rough treatment, then the Fire 7 Kids Edition (£59.99 on Prime Day) and Fire HD 8 Kids Edition Tablet (£89.99 on Prime Day) might be just the trick. Both will have £40 wiped off their usual price.
Sony and Canon Cameras
If you’re in the market for a new camera, you can expect to see up to 30% off the usual price from a range of cameras from both Canon and Sony. If you’re about to go on holiday, it’s worth waiting to see what deals Prime Day unearths.
LG, Sony, Toshiba and more TVs
Similarly, Amazon is wiping off up to 30% from a range of TVs. Being that we saw LG OLEDs on sale last year, that could be a good indicator of what might show up come Prime Day 2018. Fingers crossed.
Epson, Sony, LG and Optoma projectors
If a standard TV simply isn’t going to cut it and you want to go much bigger, you’ll be pleased by the up to 30% savings on a range of projectors.
Bose, Sennheiser and Sony headphones
Great headphone deals are a staple of Prime Day, and this year’s seemingly will be no different. Amazon will be taking 30% off a range of top-brand headphones for the big day.
Kitchen appliances from Crock-Pot, Tefal and Philips
A Crock-Pot was the big seller of Prime Day in the US, so it’s no surprise it’s featuring again. Expect up to 40% off kitchen appliances.
Audio Technica, Ion Audio and Hercules
We’ll be seeing up to 30% off these audio brands as well, so expect headphones and Bluetooth speakers. Music to our ears.
NVIDIA SHIELD TV
We can also reveal that the NVIDIA SHIELD TV streaming box will be on the list of devices getting a discount. NVIDIA’s range of streamers offer 4K HDR video with plenty of streaming apps and services, including all the major players like Netflix. that shouldn’t come as any real surprise as the NVIDIA SHIELD runs Android TV. This also means it supports the Google Assistant for voice control via the remote control.
Things get more interesting with GEFORCE Now, which is NVIDIA’s game streaming service, and Gamestream, which lets you stream games from your own local PC. You can buy the NVIDIA SHIELD TV either with or without the gaming controller, letting you decide if gaming is an important factor. The SHIELD TV can make for an all-encompassing entertainment hub under your TV.
Our SHIELD TV review concluded: “The Shield TV is currently the best Android TV box around. The 2017 model is noticeably faster than competing packages such as the Amazon Fire, and has a significantly better gaming portfolio. If you’re on the market for an all-in-one streaming box then this is one of the best you can buy.”
Come Prime Day, the NVIDIA SHIELD TV discounts will be as follows:
DJI Spark Fly More Combo
If you’re in the market for a cheap drone, then this might be for you. The diminutive DJI Spark is one of the company’s smallest drones, but it still packs in plenty of smarts. It has gesture controls that let you control it with just the palm of your hands like a Jedi master.
It can also perform plenty of cinematic automatic shots for anyone wanting to go hands-off. The Fly More Combo pack includes extra accessories like batteries, propellers and a travel case. Most importantly, it includes a physical remote control, without which you have to use your smartphone to control the DJI Spark. It’s a much more enjoyable experience flying with proper sticks, and this is something we pointed out in our DJI Spark review.
As part of Prime Day, you’ll be able to bag the following deal:
Those won’t be the only discounts, however. Last year we saw massive savings on everything from TVs to home appliances and healthy and beauty. Amazon really goes to town for its big sale each year.
The prime (excuse the pun) candidate for discounts have always been Amazon’s own stable of devices like the Fire TV, Echo range and Kindle devices. These typically see deep discounts making it worthwhile waiting if you’re interested in any of them.
As for other things to expect: our deals hunters have already noticed Amazon’s Facebook ads, which give a strong indicator of what we can expect come Amazon Prime Day. It looks like we’re guaranteed to see discounts on the Amazon Echo, headphones (as we’ve already seen) and kitchen mixers at the very least. So if you’re in the market for any of those, you’re in for a treat.
We also expect to have deals on SIM-free smartphones from the likes of Motorola and Huawei. Smart home devices, like Philips Hue bulbs, have always been firm favourites of Prime Day. Especially as so many of them work with Alexa, so that means compatibility with Amazon’s own Echo devices.
Otherwise, expect deals on products beyond the usual tech. We know there’ll be discounts on products including food and drink come the big day, so there’ll really be something for everyone.
Amazon Prime Day 2018 – Early Amazon Prime Deals Live Now
If you still can’t wait until Amazon Prime Day 2018, there are already some great deals live right now to whet your appetite, especially around some of Amazon’s services.
Amazon Echo Dot
Surprisingly, Amazon has discounted the price of the Echo Dot ahead of Prime Day proper. It’s now down to just £34.99, a saving of 30% off the usual price. We’d be surprised if it goes any lower during Prime Day. Recently, Amazon has only been discounting Echo Dots if you buy two at the same time, so this is a good saving if you don’t need an extra.
If you’re looking for a way to add Alexa smarts to your home, the Echo Dot is the most cost effective introduction. Even more so with this lower price. We expect to see a lot of smart home tech showing up in Prime Day, such as Philips Hue bulbs, so picking up an Echo Dot is a good idea as it’s a fantastic way to control various devices with just your voice.
Fire TV Stick and Echo Dot bundle
As if the Echo Dot at £34.99 wasn’t already enough of a bargain, Amazon has decided to up the ante with this ridiculous bundle. For just an extra £14.99 you can grab the Fire TV Stick with an Alexa Voice Remote.
The Fire TV Stick alone is a fantastic device, providing your television with access to streaming services such as Netflix and Prime Video, but the Alexa-enabled remote makes for such a streamlined viewing experience that you’ll wonder how you ever got by without it. All you have to do is speak into the remote, ask for whatever you feel like watching and voila, every season of RuPaul’s Drag lined up for your viewing pleasure.
One such deal in the build-up to Amazon Prime Day; Amazon is currently offering 3-month free trials on certain Amazon Channels subscriptions:
Amazon Music Unlimited
On top of that, there’s also a great discount on Amazon Music Unlimited. You can get 4 months of the music streaming service for just £0.99. This gives you access to a whopping 40 million tracks from today’s biggest artists and a catalogue that’s ever expanding.
You’re able to download songs and albums for offline playback, too, and it’s completely ad-free. Amazon Music Unlimited also works great with Amazon Echo devices, letting you simply ask Alexa to play your favourite tracks or albums. Amazon Music Unlimited is also available across a range of other devices including mobile, tablets and desktop.
If you want to try the service out, 4 months for just £0.99 is a great price. It’s £7.99 per month or £79 for a year thereafter if you decide to carry on.
Sign up: Amazon Music Unlimited – 4 months for £0.99
You can take out a Kindle Unlimited trial, free for 3 months. This gives you access to over 1 million Kindle books and a rotating selection of popular magazines. You’re able to access content through the Kindle app on mobiles, tablet and desktop, or through Kindle eBook readers.

Amazon Home Services
This might be something you weren’t even aware was available from Amazon, but right now you can save 25% on a range of professional services booked online. This is across a range of services like furniture assembly, smart home installation, TV wall-mounting, carpet cleaning, plumbing and other handyman jobs. Services are dependent on your location as Amazon connects you with local tradesmen.
Booking a tradesmen can be pretty stressful at the best of times, so this seems like it makes the process much easier. Amazon says you only pay when the job is done and all services are backed by its ‘Happiness Guarantee’.
With us expecting to see discounts on plenty of smart home devices, like smart thermostats, it’s great timing as you can double up on the savings if you opt for professional installation at the same time.

Amazon Prime Day Early Deals
Every day until Prime Day itself, Amazon is doing a different daily deal. Keep an eye on Trusted Reviews because we’ll be delivering these daily deals right up until Amazon Prime Day 2018.
Amazon Prime Day 2018 – When is Amazon Prime Day 2018?
The Amazon Prime Day 2018 dates are Monday July 16th, commencing at noon and last until the end of the following day. That’s 36 hours of pure unrestrained deals, savings and discounts in what will be the longest Prime Day event to date (beating the previous record holder by an additional six hours).
Yes, that’s 36 hours of Amazon Prime Day deals. Exciting times, indeed.
Amazon Prime Day originally came about as a celebration of Amazon’s 20th anniversary back in 2015 and has always taken place in July. It, like Amazon Prime itself, has come a long way.
36 hours might sound rather daunting but fear not, we’ll be doing the legwork for you and collating the best Prime Day deals – saving you from sifting through the countless number of products that are set to be reduced.
What is Amazon Prime Day?
So what exactly is Amazon Prime Day for the uninitiated? Think of it as a bit like Black Friday, but exclusively on Amazon. Amazon Prime Day is a massive sales extravaganza. Yes, Amazon has coined its own sales day.
It’s now in its fourth year and always happens in July. It actually has tended to last longer than just 24 hours in the past, too, and can have some serious discounts that set the precedent before Black Friday. At 36 hours this year, it’s the longest yet.
It’s a pretty smart move by the big retailer, letting it essentially take ownership of a massive sales event. In previous years it’s marketed Prime Day as having ‘more deals than Black Friday’.

Really, Amazon Prime Day is about getting people interested in an Amazon Prime subscription. Amazon’s Prime members have been shown to spend more money, and Amazon really want to promote the extra incentives around Amazon Prime membership that go beyond just the free faster shipping that kicked it all off.
WorldPay, who handle online transactions, reckons this will be the biggest Prime Day ever. Maria Prados, VP Vertical Growth, Global Retail at Worldpay has said “Amazon is betting big on video-on-demand, continuing to invest in original content and more recently acquiring the broadcast rights to major sporting events, including the ATP tennis, and the UK Premier League. We are therefore expecting this year to be the biggest Prime day ever, not just in terms of sales on the day, but also for membership growth.”
That sounds about right. With Amazon recently announcing it has acquired rights for certain Premier League games, expect there to be more and more reasons to be an Amazon Prime member on the horizon.
Expect there to be good discounts elsewhere beyond Amazon during the Prime Day period, however, as rivals will look to compete and price match where possible. They’re not going to let Amazon have it all its own way. We’ll be keeping an eye on other retailers so expect deals from the likes of Currys, John Lewis and Argos.

Amazon Prime Day 2018 – What’s new with Prime Day 2018?
It’s longer than ever
Firstly, it’s now longer than ever. At 36 hours of deals, it’s a full six hours longer than last year, which already saw an increase over previous years. Who knows how long Prime Day will be next year. Maybe they’ll need to think of a new name…
Prime Day Launches
“What are Prime Day Launches?” Well, in this new section, Prime Members can gain early access to a range of products that have yet to hit the shelves for the general public, giving you an exclusive head-start on new products.
Amazon has already started to populate the page with pre-Prime Day deals which are worth keeping an eye on before the bonanza begins.
The company has also made sure that within Prime Day Launches, there will be a bit of something for everyone with no emphasis on one particular type of product.
Among the products listed via Prime Day Launches, shoppers can expect to find home entertainment systems, the latest in smart home technology, jewellery and even big brand beauty products. Something for everyone, indeed.
Just to whet your appetite, Amazon have already started listing several products that will appear as part of the Prime Day Launches collection. What’s more, you don’t even have to wait until Prime Day to delve into Prime Day Launches.
Some notable Launches so far include the snazzy TicWatch Pro (£219.99) smartwatch. We’ve just reviewed it, awarding it 8/10 in our TicWatch Pro review. We were particularly impressed by its battery life, which can last upwards of 30 days thanks to its innovative dual-layered display. A second, low-powered display sits on top of the OLED panel and displays the time, date, steps and other useful information, without negatively impacting battery life as other ‘always-on displays’ can.
Our review concluded: “For under £220 the TicWatch Pro offers a flagship-class Wear OS experience, wrapped in a well-conceived design with a unique selling point. The design of the FSTN display may not be perfect but if you can look past that to appreciate its functional benefit, this watch makes for an option worth considering.”
Anker’s Soundcore Liberty Lite (£59.99) truly wireless earbuds could be another steal by undercutting many other truly wireless rivals. For those averse to vacuuming, there’s the INLIFE Robot Vacuum (£199) to help automate one of life’s more tedious tasks. As these are new Prime Launches, we haven’t had a chance to test either of these. The HTC Desire 12 in Cool Black (£149) is another Amazon Exclusive and an enticing phone for anyone looking for something SIM free.
Twitch Prime Free Games
If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can connect your Twitch account. Doing so will net you free monthly games and in-game loot, alongside a free channel subscription. To celebrate Prime Day in particular, you can expect a free game every day until Prime Day ends on July 17th.

Amazon Prime Day Events
Amazon is also hosting events in major cities where Amazon Prime is available, such as London, New York, Los Aneles, Milan and Tokyo. The London event, for example, has a screening for Paddington 2 (celebrating Amazon Prime Video) and a concert by Take That (celebrating Amazon Prime Music). Amazon has despatched ‘Smile boxes’ to these locations, that will be unboxed ahead of Prime Day, kicking off the celebrations. You can find out more about the London event here.
Amazon Prime Day 2018 – Who can shop on Prime Day?
Afraid so. As you might expect based on the name, Amazon Prime Day discounts are exclusively reserved for Amazon Prime subscribers, so that’s one more reason to have a subscription. You can always be tactical and take out your free 30 day trial to coincide with July but we think there’s enough value in having an all-year round membership. Amazon knows most people can’t resist staying on once the trial is over.
Once you’re done with your free trial, you have two options for signing up to Amazon Prime. There’s the annual charge of £79 for the year, or you can pay £7.99 a month. Paying monthly does work out a tad more expensive than paying for it all at once, but it does mean you have the option of skipping a month. Perfect if you’re away travelling and know you’re not going to be taking advantage of your Prime perks, for example.
Amazon Prime Day 2018 – Tips for Amazon Prime Day 2018
So you’re worried you won’t be able to spot a great deal from a dud. Fear not, we’ve got a guide just for that. It’ll help you make the right decisions come the big day:
Make sure you actually have Amazon Prime
We’ve mentioned this already, but it’s worth re-stating: You need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber to take advantage of Amazon Prime Day deals. But, fret not. You can always take out a free 30 day Amazon Prime trial and have it conveniently overlap with Amazon Prime Day. Just go here to sign up for free and make sure you’re prepared. Do it early so you’re not frantically trying to sign up for a trial all the while your Lightning Deal of choice is selling out. Nightmare.
Have an idea of what you actually want
First off, go in with an idea of what you’re after. It’s a good idea to save a few items you’re interested in to your Amazon basket in the lead up to Amazon Prime Day. That way, you’ll have a reminder of what you actually want.
But your basket will then also let you know if the price has changed in the time since you added it your shopping basket, letting you get an idea of those tasty discounts.
Also, during Prime Day, when you use the product search on Amazon.co.uk, it will let you search within Prime Day as a category, so you an quickly see if it’s on discount or not. That’s a new addition for this year, and is definitely going to help.
Use the waitlist for Lightning Deals
For those Lightning Deals, which are stock and time limited, be sure to join the waitlist even if it says it’s 100% gone. That way, if anyone fails to make their purchase within the allotted time slot, there’s a chance you can jump in and nab it.
Some over-eager shoppers will add a Lightning Deal to their basket and then think about whether or not they actually want it. So it’s worth waiting it out in case you can still snap a bargain up. That is unless it’s already sold out. If that’s the case, we’re afraid it’s a case of ‘if you snooze, you lose’. Better luck next time.
Turn on Amazon Household to share your Prime account
You might not be aware already, but you can share your Prime account with one other adult in your household. That way, if they have deals they’re after, they can be responsible for snapping them up. Also, two horses in the race is also a good idea for those short-lived Lightning Deals. Having separate accounts also means you can keep your purchases secret. Great if you’re gift hunting or perhaps shouldn’t be over-indulging in deals (nah).

Check the reviews here at Trusted Reviews
Check out some of the reviews here on Trusted Reviews. That way you know if you’re buying a genuinely good product. Even if it’s cheap, it doesn’t mean it’s something you actually want. Our team of experts look at hundreds of products every year, so we know everything worth knowing about everything from TVs to soundbars to laptops and tablets.
Have a read of our impartial reviews to learn the important stuff about your potential purchase. We list the price we reviewed the product at so, if it’s dropped drastically, keep that in mind when making your decision. Often we can view a high price as a negative when reviewing something, so if that changes then that can make a big difference. Sometimes cheap products can be a false economy, so that’s also worth keeping in mind.
Keep it locked to our Amazon Prime Day 2018 Deals page
Finally, don’t forget to also keep an eye on this page where we’ll be updating with the best deals as they become available. Our team of deals experts are keeping an eagle eye on the best Amazon Prime Day deals and we can spot the wheat from the chaff. Use our guidance and you’ll be sure to bag some fantastic bargains on the big day.
Amazon Prime Day 2018 – How to know if it’s a good deal
Use a site like CamelCamelCamel or a Chrome extension like Keepa. Both of these are Amazon price trackers that let you see the Amazon price history on products. That’s great if you want to see if a price has genuinely dropped.
Of the two, Keepa is our favourite as you don’t even have to navigate away from the Amazon Product page. It’s right there for you, instantly letting you see if you’re getting a product for a low price. As prices tend to fluctuate, you’ll have to make a judgement call if now is the right time to snap one up.
If it’s not the lowest price it’s ever been, but it’s not been discounted for a long time, it could still be a good time to jump in. You might also actually need a product right now, so that will also help with the decision. It can be easy to dilly-dally on a decision, but at the end of the day, it’s a personal decision when to dive in.
Amazon Prime Day 2018 – How big is Amazon Prime Day?
Still not sure what to expect from Amazon Prime Day 2018? Amazon has said Prime Day 2018 will feature more than one million deals globally and 40 percent more Spotlight deals in the UK than in 2017. That’s a pretty big uptick.
Amazon Prime Day is also a global event, spanning U.K., U.S., Spain, Mexico, Japan, India, Italy, Germany, France, China, Canada, Belgium, Austria and, new this year, Australia, Singapore, Netherlands and Luxembourg.
Last year’s Prime Day was Amazon’s biggest sales day of the entire year. Far eclipsing the likes of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Amazon Prime Day 2018 – What do I get with Amazon Prime?
The number of benefits from Amazon Prime membership nowadays is almost dizzying. It all started off with expedited delivery but has now expanded to an incredible amount of perks.
Quick delivery is still very welcome, mind you. You can get unlimited one-day delivery across millions of items, and in certain areas you can even get same day delivery and 1 or 2-hour delivery through Prime, for absolutely nothing.
If you order a lot and are in a hurry, this alone can make Prime membership worthwhile. We’ve lost count the number of times we’ve had to rely on speedy delivery to get us out of a bind.
Then there’s Prime Video, which features streaming movies, like Paddington 2, and TV shows including plenty of Amazon Originals exclusives like The Tick, The Man in the High Castle and of course The Grand Tour. There’s something for everyone.

For music fans, there’s Amazon Prime Music, which has a catalogue of 2 million songs ad-free. This isn’t to be confused with Amazon Prime Music Unlimited, however, as this is a separate subscription service with 40 million songs. There’s a 4 months for £0.99 promotion if you fancy trying that out.
Twitch Prime gets you in-game loot every month and ad-free Twitch streaming on the popular gaming service.
Prime Early Access
You also get early access to Lightning Deals as a Prime member, giving you an all-important head start against other bargain hunters. Amazon Family gets you 20% off grocery essentials like nappies and baby food, so great value if you’re a new parent.
Unlimited photo storage
You also get unlimited free photo storage as part of your membership. Fantastic news if you’re running out of storage space on your phone or computer, and a great way to back up those all-important memories.
Prime exclusive Audible trial
If you’re a Prime member, you can also take out a free 90-day Audible trial. Audible is all about audio books and as part of your membership you get credit for one free audiobook every month. You also have access to free audio shows and unlimited listening to original, short audio programmes.
You also get 60% off selected audiobooks. Every audiobook you buy is yours to keep even if you stop your membership. You’re able to listen on a range of devices including mobile and desktop apps, and through your Kindle Fire, Amazon Echo or Fire TV.
Membership costs £7.99 a month once the 90-day trial is over.
You can also share your Amazon Prime account with a second adult as part of an Amazon Household. We don’t mean just giving your other half your Amazon account password either. They can have their own Amazon account but you share the benefits of your Amazon Prime account, including digital content and expedited delivery.
If you want to set up an Amazon Household, have a read of our guide.
Premier League and other sports (in the future)
Amazon announced it has acquired the rights to broadcast certain Premier League football games in 2019 exclusively for Prime Members. Expect Amazon to bolster its offerings even more in the future to add even more reasons to sign up to Prime.
Amazon Prime Student
If you’re fortunate to still be living the student life, you also get a host of Amazon Prime benefits with Prime Student. Not only do you get 50% off the cost of a Prime membership, you get extra discounts like 10% off textbooks, fashion and other sections of Amazon.
