Every weekend, Windows Central livestreams an Xbox One or Steam game for 1-2 hours and gives out free games to the cool people who join us during the stream.
It’s like a live podcast, only you also get to watch a game while chatting with our awesome readers and viewers!
Tonight on Mixer, we played Letter Quest Remastered, the stellar word game/RPG from Bacon Bandit and Digerati. Read on for quick impressions and contest winners.
Letter Quest Remastered
Letter Quest is a turn-based role-playing game with a twist: players spell words to damage their enemies! It’s a unique combination of spelling and role-playing that makes every battle a delightful challenge.
Letter Quest’s campaign features 40 total levels, each with four variations to play. Every level consists of one or more battles between Grimm and a variety of monsters. The twist is you have to spell different words to defeat those monsters.
You always have a field of fifteen letters from which to choose from here, far more than Scrabble’s limit of seven letters per player. As a result, it’s usually much easier to spell words here. Words must contain at least three letters and less common letters like K and X add more damage to attacks than common ones.
Once you’ve completed a word, submit it to initiate an attack. Letter Quest also has a nice educational component in that the game displays the definition of any word you submit. Since players sometimes do a bit of guessing in word games like this, it can be cool to learn what a guessed word means.
Although Letter Quest Remastered perhaps goes on slightly longer than it should, the core gameplay and upgrade systems certainly make for an entertaining time before repetition sets in. If you enjoy word games, this one’s an easy recommendation. See our full review for more details.
