IT’S THE BATTLE of the 5Cs. Now, we might be called out for comparing two phones that are obviously unfairly matched, but ultimately we thought it worthwhile. After all, they are called the same thing.
The two handsets are twinned in their respective sacrifices, whether in display technology, performance, storage or design, but both are very affordable. You can pick up an 8GB iPhone 5C for around £85, and the Honor 5C launched at £149.
iPhone 5C: 124.4×59.2×8.97mm, 132g
Honor 5C: 147.1×73.8×8.3mm, 156g
The iPhone 5C didn’t come Apple’s typically high-end metal finish, with the firm opting for polycarbonate instead. As a result, the premium design and build quality we expect from Apple is lacking.
The Honor 5C, on the other hand, boasts an anodised metal real, but it still feels like a £149 smartphone.
In terms of design, the iPhone 5C and Honor 5C sit very much at opposite ends of the spectrum. The Honor 5C’s bigger proportions can be attributed to the huge difference in screen size (4in vs 5.2in), but somewhat surprisingly both handsets closely match in thickness.
If you’re used to pint-sized handsets, the iPhone is perfectly attuned to smaller pockets and hands. But it should be noted that the Honor’s extra width may make it difficult to reach across the whole display.
If you’re bored with the bland palette found on most modern smartphones, the iPhone 5C is your saviour. It comes in blue, yellow, green, white and pink, whereas the Honor 5C is available in Dark Grey, Sunset Gold and Space Silver.
