Behold the Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus

Motorola has unveiled the special edition Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus range mere months after the Moto G5 hit stores.

The Moto G5 – the highly-anticipated but largely disappointing handset – was unveiled at this year’s Mobile World Congress in February and now Lenovo, via its Motorola Mobility arm, has brought a marginally improved range of successors to market.

The 5.2in Moto G5S comes with a 16MP camera, is powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core processor and runs a 3000 mAh battery, which the company claims will last all day. On the front of the device is a 5MP camera and the handset measures 150mm by 73.5 mm with a depth of 8.2mm to 9.5mm.

The larger, 5.5in Moto G5S Plus model adds dual 13MP cameras on the rear, runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 2.0 GHz octa-core processor and offers the same size battery. Its front-facing camera is boosted to 8MP and while the smaller model captures video in 1080p (at 30fps), the Moto G5S Plus adds 4K capability. The handset is marginally larger at 153.5mm by 76.2 mm with a depth from 8mm to 9.5mm.

Both are water resistant. Both will ship with Android 7.1 Nougat, have 3GB RAM, 32GB of storage (which can be expanded to 128GB), and come with TurboPower chargers. This fast-charging technology promises five hours of power in just 15 minutes on the Moto GS, and six hours in the same timeframe on the Moto GS Plus. The two handsets additionally come with full HD, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 displays. The Moto G5S has a PPI of 424 while the larger screen size of the Moto GS5 Plus reduces this to 401 PPI.

The new Moto G5S and Moto G5s Plus will be available on Motorola.co.uk and at John Lewis from early August, starting at £219.99 for the Moto G5S and £259.99 for the Moto G5s Plus. The Moto G5S will be available in lunar grey and ‘fine’ gold. The Moto G5S Plus will be sold in lunar grey and ‘blush’ gold.

We’re yet to get our hands on either the Moto G5S and the G5S Plus, but stay tuned for our full review in the very near future.
